Just in time for grilling season, Ina Garten took to Instagram to share her secret for cooking ribs. In the video, Ina explains why she uses her hack in the first place, “…the thing about barbecuing ribs is by the time they’re tender and juicy on the grill, the outside is so barbecued.”

She’s right, of course. Most barbecued rib recipes can take almost two hours on the grill. That’s a long time to mingle with very smoky air and open flames.

What is Ina Garten’s hack for the best ribs?

Ina Garten’s hack for the best ribs is to use both the oven and the grill. “I cook them in the oven until they’re falling apart and delicious and then finish them on the grill,” Ina says. In her recipe, the grill acts as a quick, secondary cooking method. After baking the ribs, Ina adds a second layer of barbecue sauce, then grills the tender-baked ribs to get a nice, smoky char with beautiful grill marks in just a few minutes.

Ina outlines the technique in her foolproof ribs with barbecue sauce recipe, where she shares both a charcoal grilling and a gas grilling method.

Here’s What I Thought of the Ina Garten Barbecue Ribs

VAL GOODRICH FOR TASTE OF HOME

As someone who’s fairly new to grilling recipes, this straightforward oven-to-grill method felt very approachable to me. I knew I had to try it. I purchased baby-back ribs and quality barbecue sauce from the store (although I’m sure Ina’s recipe is fantastic) and followed the directions to the letter.

These ribs were the most flavorful and tender ribs I’ve ever had in my life. The meat fell off the bone without any hesitancy, and the double layer of barbecue sauce penetrated the meat deeply. Every bite had tang, plus an added smokiness from its quick time on the grill. They turned out so well, in fact, that I made them again for a backyard barbecue with friends the following weekend. Everyone agreed: They were the star of the spread.

Ina Garten’s barbecue ribs are definitely a back-pocket grilling recipe for me going forward.
