McDonald’s has rarely strayed too far from its tried-and-true milkshake offerings over the years: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and—every spring—the iconic Shamrock Shake.

Now, times have changed and fast-food chains are in an endless race to land on the next viral food craze. On Aug. 12, McDonald’s is launching a new, limited-edition Mt. McDonaldland Shake with a mystery flavor.

The new milkshake is said to be “inspired by the vibrant blue ‘lava’ and pink clouds” of Mt. McDonaldland, which is said to be a major landmark of the “whimsical world” where Ronald McDonald and his friends like Grimace and the Hamburglar live, according to the lore spelled out in the company’s August 5 announcement.

Those are all the hints the company is offering for now about its first new milkshake flavor since 2023’s Grimace Shake, so it will be up to all of us to discover the “secret concoction” at the heart of the new shake’s secret flavor. As soon as we get a taste, we’ll share our theories.

The shake will be available as part of the chain’s new McDonaldland Meal, which also includes either a Quarter Pounder with Cheese or a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, fries and one of six collectible tins that come with souvenir stickers and postcards that pay tribute to Ronald and his friends.

When can I get the new Mt. McDonaldland Shake?

McDonald’s new milkshake arrives in restaurants nationwide on August 12. Because the chain is calling it a limited-edition offering, you won’t want to wait too long before going to get a taste of the new mystery flavor for yourself.
