Breakfast has never been spookier.
I Tried the Oreo Halloween Cereal That Turns Your Milk Orange–Here’s My Honest Opinion
When people ask me what my favorite food is, I always try to think of a good response. Maybe it should be a regional dish that I grew up eating, like Chicago-style hot dogs and deep-dish pizza. Or maybe it should be the comfort food that both Ina Garten and I enjoy: butternut squash soup. Perhaps my favorite dish is really just mozzarella sticks.
But, deep down, I know that my true favorite food is Oreos. I love them in every form. It feels kind of silly to admit that my favorite food is actually a cookie from the grocery store, but who am I to judge myself?
So you can imagine my delight when the good people at Post announced that they were making a very special Oreo Puffs Halloween cereal for 2025. It’s Oreo Puffs like you’ve never seen them before—with orange milk. Gasp! I had to try it out immediately.
What is the Oreo Halloween cereal?

First, a little Oreo history lesson. If you’re a millennial like me, you’ll remember when Oreo O’s hit the stores. I begged for them every time we went grocery shopping, but my mom never let me have them (too much sugar, blah blah blah). However, I was able to try some at my friend’s house, which is a classic tactic used by every kid who comes from a strict food household. The Oreo O’s were a delight, as I suspected.
Oreo O’s, however, were discontinued from 2007 to 2017, so I went much of my adult life deprived of my favorite cookie cereal. And while Oreo Puffs were introduced in 2024 to replace the once again discontinued Oreo O’s, I have to admit that I was still salty about my discontinued cereal, so I didn’t try the new one until I picked up a box of this Halloween version.
What does the Oreo Halloween cereal taste like?

Guess what? These Oreo Puffs are even better than Oreo O’s. The crispy puff ball cereal is made with real pieces of the Oreo cookies, so you get that distinctive Oreo flavor in every bite. And the addition of the marshmallows is also a win—every cereal should have marshmallows in some capacity! It’s a great element to add texture and color variety. My only complaint is that I felt like the puffs-to-marshmallows ratio was off. It was probably one marshmallow for four cookie puffs, and I’d rather have it be an even split.
Obviously, the biggest draw for this Halloween Oreo cereal is the fact that it turns your milk orange. I kind of wondered how this would happen, since nothing on the ingredients label stood out to me (although what was I looking for, “special spooky dye”?). As soon as I added milk to my bowl, the surface of the marshmallows started turning orange, and so did the puffs.
As I stirred my cereal up, I couldn’t believe how quickly the milk changed color. Granted, it’s was a slightly less-vibrant orange than the milk displayed on the box, but maybe that’s just because I used oat milk. Regardless, it was very cool to see the whole bowl turn orange before my very eyes. This is a really fun holiday treat, and I think that kids would absolutely love it.
Where can I buy the Oreo Halloween cereal?
The best news is that this cereal has already hit shelves. Find it in the cereal aisle wherever you do your shopping. Since this is a seasonal item, it won’t be around forever—although hopefully it will be here through the end of October. Whether you love cereal, Oreos, Halloween or even just the color orange, make sure to pick up a box the next time you’re at the grocery store.
