I’ve been covering the best Advent calendars for four years. And every season, without fail, a countdown stops me in my tracks. Sometimes, I’m awed by the storytelling or packaging. Other times, I am lured in by the surprises. And, on occasion, a staggering price tag catches my eye.

In 2025, the honors for the most jaw-dropping Advent calendar go to none other than Vosges Haut-Chocolat’s Le Jardin de Cacao. Yes, this beauty costs a pretty penny. But here’s why it’s a worthy investment for serious chocolate lovers.

Vosges Chocolate Advent Calendar

This Christmas, take a journey to the tropics with this enchanting and decadent Advent calendar.

What is the Vosges chocolate Advent calendar?

The Vosges Haut-Chocolat Advent calendar is a sweet tooth’s dream. It captures all the magic of the season in one whimsical package. As I said, I’m an experienced Advent calendar tester who’s encountered dozens of countdowns, but my jaw dropped when the Vosges option showed at my door.

This year’s theme, Le Jardin de Cacao, transports you into the jungle for 25 days of decadence. The calendar itself is shaped like a glam, lush greenhouse, decked to the brim in holiday decor. But it gets even cooler. The countdown lights up and plays music! It’s rechargeable via USB-C, so you can enjoy twinkling lights and Christmas carols as you open each drawer.

Every inch is covered with stunning details, including an exquisite window hiding snow-kissed bottlebrush trees inside. This is by far the most luxurious perishable Advent calendar I’ve ever seen, and it will absolutely last for enjoyment season after season.

My favorite detail, though, has to be the animal artwork. The house is full of jolly jungle friends—including giraffes, birds and big cats—who are eager to keep you company throughout the holiday season. There’s even a platypus! The attention to detail is unmatched.

The countdown measures roughly 14 inches high and spans a full 2 feet when open. I highly recommend finding a prominent spot for your Advent calendar and treating it as the showstopping holiday decoration it is.

How We Tested

Unboxing

The Vosges Advent calendar arrives in a large, padded box. I tested a sneak preview in October, and even despite the warm temperatures where I live, the chocolate was perfectly intact with zero melting.

Each order includes the calendar and a charger. To start, I plugged it in for about two hours. (The light changes from red to green, so you know when it’s done charging.) There are controls on the front of the calendar (where the ribbon ties it together) to control both the lights and the music. There’s also a volume control dial. The calendar cycles through instrumental versions of classic carols, including Canon in D and It Came Upon a Midnight Clear. The sound quality isn’t crystal-clear, but it’s similar to a snow globe or other holiday tchotchke.

Now, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the Le Jardin de Cacao design is even better than last year’s Nordic Forest Chalet. To be clear—I love both. But the greenhouse effect is pure holiday magic. Every time I look at the 2025 calendar, I notice a new detail, whether it’s a sweet butterfly floating through the lush jungle or the leopard’s glorious headpiece. It’s like a grown-up, holiday-themed version of “I Spy” that I get to enjoy every day.

If the intricate packaging wasn’t enough to get your attention, the contents of the Vosges Chocolate Advent calendar certainly will. (And if you’d rather it be a surprise, skip this section!)

Vosges Haut-Chocolat is already known for its creative confections. After all, they won the “most exotic” award in our best boxed chocolates showdown. They source only the best ingredients from around the world and merge unexpected flavors for a novel experience. The Advent calendar is no different. Expect to unwrap everything from spiced truffles and fruit-kissed caramels to bonbons and toffees. Every day is a new tasting adventure. Plus, there’s enough to share. Each day includes enough confections for two adults.

Another perk? This calendar includes a bonus Christmas Day surprise! While most Advent calendars end on Christmas Eve, Vosges’ keeps going and includes a treasure trove of goodies to enjoy on the holiday itself.

Vosges’ flavors go well beyond the standard milk chocolate truffles and peppermint bark confections found in many chocolate Advent calendars. It’s an experience that will broaden your palate and your holiday spirit. Every single item I tested from the calendar was fresh and decadent. I munched through Blackberry Thickets, Milk Chocolate Shortbread Batons, Caramel Marshmallows, Manchego Cherry Petites and much more. Even cooler? A lot of the items are exclusive to the calendar and can’t be found anywhere else. Sweet!

My one concern is that the Advent calendar does not come with a tasting guide. While I fully understand the need to keep a surprise element, I would have loved to know what I was biting into each day. That said, you can check out the Advent calendar allergen guide for a full list of contents.

2024 Vosges Chocolate Advent Calendar

I was lucky enough to also test the 2024 Vosges Chocolate Advent calendar, the Nordic Forest Chalet. This woodland masterpiece leaned into the cozy, cottage vibes of Christmas in the forest. It was shaped like an actual house, complete with velvet-kissed roof shingles. It featured an array of musical forest friends—including an owl, squirrel, wolf and reindeer.

The chocolates were some of the best I’ve ever had. Every inch of this calendar, including the contents, paid homage to the woodland theme. There were even tiny chocolate gnomes and hedgehogs! The inclusions were very generous each day, more than enough for my husband and I to share. We even found ourselves having leftovers some days.

I kept the chalet on my kitchen table, and several friends and family members who visited during the holiday season were awed. The Vosges calendar doubles as a high-end Christmas decoration I know I’ll put on display year after year.

Plus, you can refill it! Every year, the brand sells an Advent calendar refill bundle if you don’t want to splurge on the new design. It includes all the chocolaty goodness to restock. The drawers are also large enough to fit an array of other goodies if you’d rather buy your own surprises. You could fit small ornaments, beauty products, socks—you name it.

Pros

  • Incredible storytelling and attention to detail
  • Gourmet, luxurious chocolates—including some exclusive to the calendar!
  • Calendar itself doubles as decor
  • Refillable
  • Packed and shipped to order

Cons

  • $375 price tag ($50 more than last year)
  • Does not include a tasting guide

Final Verdict

There’s no denying that the Vosges 2025 Advent calendar is a splurge. With a $375 price tag, it takes luxury Advent calendars to a new level. But for serious chocolate lovers who want to pay for superb quality, attention to detail and storytelling, it’s well worth a look. With 25 days of treats, the cost breaks down to about $15 per day. For two people, that’s no more than a coffee run or an after-dinner ice cream. If, like me, you want a little treat—especially during the most wonderful time of the year—this is an epic option. Plus, the calendar is perfectly suited for refills and reuse every season.

Vosges Chocolate Advent Calendar

If you're looking to splurge, this is one of my all-time favorite Advent calendars.

The Le Jardin de Cacao is available on the brand’s website for $375. Each collection is packed fresh the same day it ships, and orders will start going out in mid-November. Quantities are limited, and this calendar has a tendency to sell out every year.
