Chappywrap Harborview Herringbone Blanket
NANCY SNYDER FOR TASTE OF HOME
BEST OVERALL

ChappyWrap Harborview Herringbone Blanket

Pros:

  • Luxurious yet functional
  • Fuzz-, pilling- and shrinking-resistant
  • Perfect for snuggling or draped over the bottom of a queen-size bed
  • Additional patterns available
  • Machine washable
  • Offers the perfect amount of warmth and heaviness to be used during any season

Cons:

  • Limited color options

What if we told you there’s a blanket that’s truly pill- and fuzz-resistant while delicately cozy enough for every activity? Yes, it exists, and the secret is a ChappyWrap blanket.

"As one of the best blankets, this is the first one I’ve owned that combines luxury with functionality. "
Nancy Snyder
Senior Shopping Editor

“Previously, I always sacrificed one for the other. The material (which is a blend of cotton, acrylic and polyester) and finished edges make it soft yet durable—perfect for movie night or draped at the foot of a bed. And because it’s machine washable, it’s both pet- and kid-friendly. Not to mention, it’s perfect to pack for a picnic or camping trip. It comes in many versatile and stylish patterns and colors, but I’m a sucker for a reversible herringbone design.”

NANCY SNYDER FOR TASTE OF HOME

Plus, it’s incredibly durable. “It has now been roughly nine months since I received my Chappy Wrap, and I still consider it my ‘new’ blanket. The blanket holds up in the washer and dryer (tumble dry on low heat) and has shown zero signs of pilling, fading or fuzz,” adds Nancy. “I love how it adds richness to my decor and added coziness for watching TV. My dog (and cuddle buddy) is also a fan, which accounts for the more-frequent-than-usual washing.”

Lola Blanket
MARY HENN FOR TASTE OF HOME
Best Faux Fur

The Original Lola Blanket

Pros:

  • Buttery-soft, faux-fur material
  • Elastic banding creates a textured look and provides a bit of stretch
  • Banded design helps blanket hold its shape and keeps it looking great
  • Stain-resistant and shed-free fabric
  • Multiple sizes, patterns and colors available
  • Lola XL is the largest blanket we tested, ideal for sharing and gives a heavy, weighted sensation

Cons:

  • Cleaning may be difficult
  • Splurge-worthy price point makes this an investment

With Lola Blankets surging in popularity, our team had to test the viral blanket for themselves. The verdict? This blanket is next-level soft.

“It really does feel like bunny fur,” says Shopping Editor Mary Henn. She opted for the trending Caramel N’ Cream color, which she says looks even better in person than it does online. The faux-fur blanket has an elastic surface that adds depth and a gentle stretch, making it easy to share. Mary says she and her partner can both tug a little on each side of the blanket without ripping it from one another.

Lola Blanket
MARY HENN FOR TASTE OF HOME

"The Lola Blanket might be my all-time favorite. It’s huge, unbelievably soft, slightly stretchy, and it looks beautiful draped over a couch or chair."
mary henn
shopping editor

Like the Cozy Earth blanket, Lola Blankets’ care instructions require a cold wash and hang dry. Thankfully, Lola offers multiple sizes and colors, so if the XL is too big to manage for your small washing machine, you can opt for a smaller size of our favorite faux-fur blanket that may be easier to care for.

Lovesac Footsac
KATIE BANDURSKI FOR TASTE OF HOME
Best Couch Blanket

Lovesac Footsac

Pros:

  • Incredibly cozy and warm
  • Washes well in a standard-size washing machine
  • Includes a built-in foot pocket for keeping feet warm
  • Variety of colors and fabrics available

Cons:

  • Air-dry only
  • Could be a bit wider

Whether you love taking a couch nap or hunkering down with a good book, the Footsac faux-fur blanket is a wintertime must. From the makers of our favorite modular sectional, Lovesac, this uber-soft and cozy blanket is the ideal cold-weather companion.

"This is the warmest blanket I've ever tested—and I live in Wisconsin! The 'phur' texture is dreamy; it reminds me of snuggling with a bunch of stuffed animals."
Katie Bandurski
deputy editor

Plus, the built-in foot pocket ensures your feet stay toasty during movie nights, reading marathons or while simply lounging. The blanket also has a nice heft to it, without veering into weighted territory.

Lovesac Footsac
KATIE BANDURSKI FOR TASTE OF HOME

After testing the blanket for nine months, Katie says there are no signs of wear. “With fuzzy fabric, you worry sometimes that it won’t hold up nicely in the wash, but this cleaned up like a dream!”

The only downside, according to Katie, is the blanket’s size. “The 50×70-inch dimensions work perfectly fine for me, but it’s not wide enough to wrap fully around my husband and me,” she says. “For that, I’d recommend the larger Room for Two Footsac, which is a generous 75×70-inch size.”

Toha25 Better Homes & Gardens Fleece Throw Mary Henn 01 Otedit
MARY HENN FOR TASTE OF HOME
BEST BUDGET

Better Homes & Gardens Fleece Throw

Pros:

  • Affordable price point
  • Plush textured fleece
  • Insulating and warm, ideal for chilly nights
  • Machine washable
  • Safe to tumble dry
  • Comes in 14 colors

Cons:

  • Listed as oversized, but its 50 x 72 inch size is more medium-sized
  • Stitching is visible on one side

At under $20, this Walmart throw blanket is our best budget pick. It’s attractively priced and makes an affordable, cozy gift for the homebody on your list.

“Made of 100% fuzzy polyester, this throw is ultra-plush and soft to the touch,” says Shopping Editor Mary Henn. “It’s a medium-sized, lightweight blanket that feels cozy without being too heavy. It traps warmth well, though those who love a bit of heft might find it a little too light.”

MARY HENN FOR TASTE OF HOME

Thanks to its compact size and low weight, it also makes a great travel blanket. It’s easy to toss in a tote or keep in the car for chilly flights or road trips.

"I appreciate that this blanket washes well, so I can use it year-round without worrying about spills or messes. In colder months, I’ll layer it under a heavier quilt for extra warmth without sacrificing softness."
mary henn
shopping editor

It’s simple, soft, versatile and proof that comfort doesn’t have to come with a high price tag.

Toh25 Cozy Earth Cuddle Blanket Katie Bandurski 02 Ssedit
KATIE BANDURSKI FOR TASTE OF HOME
Lowest Price in 30 days BEST SPLURGE

Cozy Earth Cuddle Blanket

Pros:

  • Ultra-soft faux fur material
  • Weighted sensation offers a luxurious sleeping experience
  • Available in standard throw size or as an oversized throw
  • One of the softest and most luxurious blankets we’ve tested
  • Multiple sizes, textures and colors available

Cons:

  • Standard throw size is a tad smaller than expected for sharing with a partner
  • Splurge-worthy price point makes this an investment
  • Cleaning may be difficult

We first tested the Cozy Earth Cuddle Blanket in 2023, and this year, we’re giving it another go to see if it’s still as soft and dreamy as we remember.

Deputy Editor Katie Bandurski recently snagged the large faux fur throw and was floored by how soft the fabric was. “I joked to my husband that it felt like chinchilla fur,” she says. “As someone who lives in Wisconsin, there are times in the winter when I would do anything to keep warm. This oh-so-soft blanket is weighty and warming without being smothering.”

"I have yet to encounter another comparable blanket on the market that is equally high quality and cozy."
Katie Bandurski
Deputy Editor

The main drawback? Cleaning it. Cozy Earth recommends cold washing it alone and then line drying or air drying it without heat. “Unfortunately, I don’t see this blanket fitting in many home washing machines,” Katie says. “It weighs a ton dry, I can’t imagine how heavy it is when wet.”

KATIE BANDURSKI FOR TASTE OF HOME

However, when former Taste of Home editor Madi Koetting was gifted the Cozy Earth blanket in 2023, she noted that she ran hers through the washing machine and laid it out to dry with zero issues.

Still, we recommend treating it like Grandma’s heirloom quilt or a dry-clean-only comforter. In other words, keep it clean, and don’t toss it in the wash unless you absolutely have to.

That said, if you’re looking to gift (or get) pure luxury in blanket form, this one’s hard to beat. It is absolutely a splurge, but we find it does, in fact, live up to the hype.

Brooklinen Dreamweave Waffle Blanket

Brooklinen Dreamweave Waffle Blanket

Pros:

  • Waffle-knit design regulates body temperature
  • Breathable and cooling
  • 100% Turkish cotton
  • Ideal for layering
  • Machine washable
  • Multiple sizes and color options

Cons:

  • May be too lightweight for colder months
  • Waffle weave fabrics can snag easily

Aside from looking super chic and cozy, waffle knit blankets are more than aesthetically pleasing. The waffle texture helps regulate body temperature, so if you suffer from night sweats or simply run hot, this type of blanket is a welcome addition.

MARY HENN FOR TASTE OF HOME

“If you’re looking for a lighter-weight blanket that’s perfect for layering on your bed, look no further than the Dreamweave Waffle Blanket,” says Shopping Editor Mary Henn.

It’s made of 100% Turkish cotton and comes in 10 colors and three bedding sizes. “Like most waffle-weave cotton throws, this one isn’t plush. Instead, it’s crisp and airy,” Mary says. “This one makes frequent trips between my sofa and bed. When I’m not cozied up on the couch with it, I lay it across the foot of my bed. Sometimes it’s all I cover up with during the summer months when even my lightweight comforter is too hot.”

Big Blanket Co.
KATIE BANDURSKI FOR TASTE OF HOME
BEST FOR FAMILIES AND COUPLES

Big Blanket Co.

Pros:

  • Massive size for individual or shared snuggling
  • Soft, velvety fabric that boasts a plush, slightly weighted feel
  • Machine washable, despite its size
  • Plenty of fun colors and patterns
  • Includes storage bag for out-of-season stashing

Cons:

  • On the heavier side, some users may find it hard to maneuver
  • Difficult to fold

Some blankets just simply aren’t big enough. Whether you’re searching for the ultimate cozy accessory for the whole family to enjoy or you live with a blanket hog (or maybe you’re the culprit), we firmly believe everyone needs a larger-than-life throw so that everyone rests easy—and we found just the answer.

“I’ll admit it: I’m a blanket hog,” says Katie. “Whenever I settle in for a movie night, I inadvertently pull the cozy fabric off my husband and onto myself. Oops. Well, thanks to Big Blanket, my selfish tendencies matter no more.”

“This 10 x 10-foot blanket is massive and more than covers both of us,” adds Katie. “In my testing, I was awed by the velvety soft fabric and plush, slightly weighted feel. It’s the ideal blanket for lounging on the couch, snuggling or even building a blanket fort. Plus, it’s machine washable. I was nervous its ample size wouldn’t fit in my washer or would damage the motor with its weight. However, it washed up beautifully with no strain on my machine. After two cycles of drying, it was as good as new.”

Katie has been testing this blanket for nine months, and in that time her approval has only grown. “I think my husband might love this thing more than I do,” she laughs. “But it seriously is the best. Almost every night ends with us snuggled (and, let’s be honest, snoozing) under the Big Blanket. I’ve washed it several more times with zero issues.”

Toha25 Little Sleepies Cloud Blanket Mary Henn 01 Otedit
MARY HENN FOR TASTE OF HOME
BEST FOR KIDS

Little Sleepies Cloud Blanket

Pros:

  • Big and cozy (50 x 50 inches)
  • Hypoallergenic, triple-layered bamboo soothes sensitive skin
  • Super-soft, stretchy and breathable
  • Suitable for all seasons, temperature-regulating
  • Many prints have matching PJs, making them a great gift set

Cons:

  • May pill or shift in the wash, especially without proper care
  • May be too thin for chilly sleepers or cold climates

Bamboo fabric is a parent favorite for good reason. It’s ultra-soft, breathable and hypoallergenic, making it ideal for babies and toddlers. “Bamboo is my go-to fabric for my toddler’s blankets,” says Shopping Editor Mary Henn. “It’s moisture-wicking, so it helps my sweaty sleeper keep from overheating.”

Toha25 Little Sleepies Cloud Blanket Mary Henn 02 Otedit
MARY HENN FOR TASTE OF HOME

The Little Sleepies Cloud Blanket takes bamboo to the next level. Made with triple-layered bamboo viscose, it’s gentle on sensitive skin and super stretchy for that cozy, just-right feel. Each blanket is double-sided (typically a print on one side and a solid on the other), generously sized at 50 x 50 inches and suitable for all seasons.

“I was gifted Little Sleepies pajamas at my baby shower and got hooked,” Mary says. “Now, the Cloud Blanket is the only one my 18-month-old will use at nap time,” Mary says.

"It’s the Goldilocks of blankets—not too hot, not too light."
mary henn
shopping editor

Editor’s Note: The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends keeping soft objects and loose bedding out of the sleeping area for at least the first 12 months. Cloud Blankets and other blankets should not be left unattended in cribs for children under 1 year.

“This blanket feels a lot like a sleeping bag,” says Shopping Editor Mary Henn. “It’s not your plush, snuggle-on-the-couch kind of blanket, but it’s incredibly durable and weather-resistant. I also love the corner staking loops, which are perfect for keeping it anchored during camping trips.”

One of our favorite features is the built-in cape clip, which lets you wear the blanket hands-free like a warm, adventure-ready poncho. We also like the extra space the two-person option provides. It’s perfect for stretching out during picnics. That said, if you’re traveling solo or simply prefer not to share, the single-person version still offers a roomy 52 x 75 inches of blanket.

"It’s super easy to wash and surprisingly hard to stain. Even after repeated outdoor use, mine still looks brand new."

Quince Fisherman Throw Blanket

Pros:

  • Functional, simple design that looks great in any space
  • Woven texture holds up through natural wear and tear
  • Attractive price point for the quality of blanket
  • 100% cotton
  • Available in four colors

Cons:

  • Dry clean only, but our tester found it washed well in standard washing machine

If you’re trying to make your space feel more cozy and comfortable, a quality throw blanket is an instant way to do so. “In search of an accessory to dress up my white couch and function as an emotional support blanket, I scooped up this woven terracotta throw blanket from Quince,” says tester Madi Koetting. “And let me tell you, this is the queen of all throw blankets.”

Not only does the woven texture offer a timeless look worthy of displaying on the couch, bed or armchair, but the cotton throw has a delicate weight perfect for cuddling up with at any time of the year. The best way to describe it is it’s like your favorite chunky cable knit sweater, but in blanket form.

“I’ve tested this blanket for over nine months, and I’m impressed by how well the woven texture holds up. It has never once pilled, frayed or fallen apart despite my puppy constantly scratching and chewing on it,” Madi says. “The only deterioration I’ve experienced is some stragglers on the ends, but that is 100% attributed to my dog, who loves to chew on details like weaving or tassels.”

Quince Blanket
MADI KOETTING FOR TASTE OF HOME

Though it’s recommended that the Quince throw be dry cleaned, our tester found that it held up well in her washing machine on a cold, gentle cycle. She washed it about once a month over the nine-month testing period.

A good throw blanket should be more than just eye candy, and this Quince blanket delivers.

So when it comes to the best weighted blanket overall, we decided to pick an option that caters to a variety of customers,” says Shopping Editor Emily Way.

“Whether you’re looking for a child-sized blanket or a full-sized king quilt for your bed, Luna’s fleet of five different sizes has you covered—literally,” she adds. “While the available weights are tied to the size, we love that any and all needs are represented. Prefer a 5-pound lap blanket for movie watching? Snag the smaller child size. For a full cocoon feel, the 15-pound option is perfect.”

“Since my initial tests, I’ve washed this Cozy Earth throw about six times,” Caitlyn says. “The 100% viscose from bamboo material is strong, yet soft. The smooth texture is still there, and the fringe detailing looks like it did the day I got it.”

Bonus: It’s safe in your washer and dryer, and our tester says it feels even softer after cleaning. Plus, she hasn’t noticed any shrinkage or pilling. This blanket is a bit of a splurge, but with the quality and chic design, it’s one you’ll want to keep out all year long.

Best Heated

Beautyrest Luxury Heated Throw

Pros:

  • Solid heat levels
  • Lots of color options
  • Auto-shutoff
  • Available in six sizes
  • User-friendly remote
  • Machine washable

Cons:

  • Heat distribution isn't consistent
  • Slightly inconsistent coils

When the weather cools down, this Beautyrest heated blanket keeps things pleasantly toasty. Our testers were quite pleased by how quickly this blanket heated up. On the lowest setting, it reached 79.3 degrees in the corner and 85 degrees in the center. On the highest setting, it registered 81.5 degrees in the corner and 95.1 degrees in the center—nice and warm!

The only issue? “There is a foot of non-heated space around the entire perimeter of the throw,” explains product tester Dylan Fischer. “Because the actual heated portion doesn’t extend to the corners, we found ourselves bunching it up more, which occasionally leads to feet being exposed.”

That said, we love that this option offers a machine-washable construction and plush, velvety fabric. Additionally, with a plethora of fun shades, it complements almost any decor.

Others We Tested and Loved

  • Saatva Waffle Knit Blanket: Another waffle-knit blanket we love comes from Saatva. Made of 100% cotton, it’s easy to style and gets softer with every wash. The lightweight waffle weave is gentle on the skin and won’t cause overheating. Unfortunately, it goes out of stock frequently on Saatva’s website.
  • Pretty Rugged Faux Fur Original Blanket: Outdoor blankets don’t have to be boring. This luxe faux fur option blends style and durability and is built to withstand the elements. We loved its plush weight during testing. While some outdoor blankets are thin and scratchy, this pick comes highly recommended by outdoor enthusiasts for a reason.
  • Bedsure Sherpa Fleece Throw Blanket: Our runner-up to the Best Budget pick is this Bedsure blanket, which features sherpa fleece and a velvet flannel top for winter warmth. It has withstood months of daily use without pilling, shedding, or shrinking. Just note that it holds odors, so you may need to wash it more often.
  • Avocado Natural Linen Quilt: If you’re looking for a crisp quilt option, this one is lightweight yet insulating, making it suitable for every season. We love that it’s made with sustainable, breathable and natural materials. “The quality is top-notch,” Deputy Editor Katie Bandurski says. After washing, it looked just as good as it did straight out of the package.”
  • Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Blanket: A solid, oversized throw that holds up through multiple washes and puppy cuddles. It doesn’t pill and stays soft and fluffy wash after wash.
  • Bearaby Cotton Napper: This throw combines the calming feel of weighted blankets with a chunky knit fabric. “I’m a hot sleeper who’s skeptical of weighted blankets, but sleeping with my Bearaby completely melts away my anxiety from the day,” says Shopping Editor Emily Way. “Between the breathable buttery-soft cotton and airy loop-knit style, I never once woke up sweating.”
  • Luxome Ultra Plush Throw: This ultra-plush throw is soft, stylish and totally giftable. The fabric, colors and graceful drape give it a high-end, luxurious look and feel. While we love the dark neutral hues, a few bright color options would make it even better. It’s nearly identical in size and price to the Bearfoot Dreams throw, with an added XL option.
  • Novelty Recycled Printed Plush Throw: At $10, this throw is a steal. It is thin and soft, made of the typical polyester fuzzy texture. It’s on the smaller side, but for the budget-friendly price, we think it’s a great option for a car or travel blanket.
  • Silk & Snow Hand Knit Weighted Blanket: This gorgeous, chunky-knit weighted blanket is organic and comes in a variety of colors and weights. The only downside? The care instructions. While it’s machine washable, it’s only feasible if your washer can handle its heft.
  • Brooklinen Airweave Crinkle Cotton Bed Blanket: If it’s muslin you’re after, this bed blanket is lightweight, airy and perfect for hot sleepers. It has a double-layer construction made of 100% Turkish cotton, and while the color options are limited, the soft, crinkled fabric will drape effortlessly across your bed.
  • Evergrace Faux Rabbit Fur Blanket: This Amazon blanket is a solid faux fur budget pick. While it’s only lined with faux fur on one side, it’s impressively soft. Our editors were genuinely surprised by how plush and buttery it feels. The 50 x 60-inch size is washing machine-friendly and tumble-dry safe, and there are plenty of sizes and colors to choose from.

Others We Tested and Didn’t Love

  • Avocado Weighted Blanket: We loved the soothing pressure and soft design of this weighted blanket, but we found it almost identical to the Bearaby Napper. We also didn’t love the significant upcharge for cotton.
  • The Big One Oversized Plush Throw Blanket: While we love the bright colors and very affordable price tag of this blanket, the size leaves a lot to be desired. The 72-inch length isn’t enough for most adults. It’s a great pick for kids, though!
  • Cuddl Duds Sherpa Plush Throw: Right out of the package, this blanket is incredibly soft and fuzzy. But over time, the sherpa mats down and is hard to keep clean. It’s a good value, though.
  • Vera Bradley Plush Throw Blanket: Pretty colors and patterns? Check. Soft to the touch? Check. We loved the lightweight feel of this blanket, but the 50-inch width leaves little room for sharing.
  • Dangtop Cooling Bamboo Blanket: Hot sleepers will appreciate this lightweight, cooling blanket. The porous bamboo fibers help filter air and keep you cool. Plus, it comes in multiple colors to match your aesthetic. However, we noticed evident pilling after just a few washes.
  • Piglet in Bed Stripe Wool Throw: A quality wool throw can be hard to find, and while we like the look and durability of this one, we think it’s a little too small. We also don’t love that it’s dry-clean only.

Additional Testing in 2025

Lola Blanket
MARY HENN FOR TASTE OF HOME

Over the past few years, our shopping editors have tested more than 50 throw blankets, each one through months of real-life use. While this list is compiled of the most noteworthy finds, it doesn’t include all the blankets that have passed through our editors’ hands.

This year, we zeroed in on faux-fur favorites like the viral Lola Blanket, which became an instant obsession. “Anytime someone visits, they ask where it came from,” says Shopping Editor Mary Henn. “It has easily become my favorite blanket of the year.”

We also revisited old favorites like the Cozy Earth Cuddle Blanket to ensure their durability, and we ramped up testing in our weighted blanket category, led by Shopping Editor Emily Way.

Our editors didn’t stop there. We tracked down top-rated social media picks and followed recs from friends, family and trusted insiders. New this year: a kid-friendly, bamboo favorite from Little Sleepies and an outdoor-ready option built for serious adventurers.

What To Look for When Buying the Best Blankets

Here at Taste of Home, we’re firm believers that not all blankets are created equal. Regan Billingsley, founder of Regan Billingsley Interiors, agrees. “We gravitate toward throw blankets made from natural fibers. They’re soft, breathable and feel good against the skin,” she says. “With the right care, like occasional hand washing and line drying, they tend to last much longer than synthetic options, which often pill or lose their texture.”

“When choosing a throw, think about how you’ll use it,” Billingsley says. “Lightweight weaves are perfect for warm-weather lounging, while heavier textures bring cozy weight and warmth to a bed or sofa.”

Below are a few more specifics to keep in mind when shopping for the best blanket for your home, family and needs.

  • Material: For a blanket that will hold up wash after wash (and that’s sustainable), opt for 100% cotton or a cotton blend. Or, if you’re a hot sleeper, opt for cooling and breathable fabrics like bamboo.
  • Size/Versatility: While the standard throw blanket size is 50×60 inches, sometimes you want a blanket with a little extra room for snuggling. Before shopping, think about how you’ll enjoy the blanket. Are you wishing for something extra big for the whole family to snuggle with? What about a compact yet foldable throw you can easily stash away? Several highly recommended blankets come in multiple sizes and are perfect for every need and activity.
  • How to wash: Depending on the fabric, some blankets are more high maintenance than others. If you prefer a low-maintenance, easy-to-freshen-up blanket, carefully read the care instructions to ensure it’s machine washable. Many high-quality blankets are dry clean only, which is okay, but it requires extra care.
  • Seasonal choices: For hot sleepers or summer months, breathable materials like cotton, bamboo or linen help regulate temperature. In colder seasons, wool, fleece or down blankets provide excellent insulation and warmth.
  • Budget-friendly options: Fleece and microfiber blankets are affordable, soft and easy to maintain, making them great budget-friendly choices. Shopping during sales or looking for well-reviewed mid-range brands can also help you find quality at a lower price.
  • Luxury and high-end options: Blankets made from premium materials like cashmere, alpaca or high-thread-count cotton offer superior softness, durability and an upscale feel. While they come at a higher price, they often last longer and provide a more luxurious sleeping experience.
  • Allergy considerations: Hypoallergenic blankets made from organic cotton, bamboo or down-alternative materials help reduce dust mites and allergens. Look for OEKO-TEX or GOTS-certified fabrics to ensure they are free from harsh chemicals that could trigger sensitivities.
  • Eco-friendly options: Sustainable blankets use organic cotton, recycled materials or responsibly sourced wool to minimize environmental impact. Many brands now prioritize ethical production and eco-conscious dyeing processes for a greener choice.

How We Found the Best Blankets

You’re probably wondering: how do you even test a blanket? Because blankets come in all shapes, sizes, fabrics and textures, our editors have spent years cozying up with dozens of them to find the best of the best for every style, activity and climate.

For this piece, we focused on standard throw sizes (at least 50 x 60 inches) and tested each blanket for at least 30 days. Our editors and product testers napped, lounged and binge-watched under each blanket to judge the weight, softness, versatility and how well it held up to real-life use (including the washing machine).

The top picks you see above earned their spots based on quality, washability, value and standout features. We didn’t stop there, either. When applicable, we followed up with testers at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months to see how the blankets held up over time. This added layer of long-term testing ensures that products are just as good on day 365 as they are on day 1.

FAQ

What is the best brand of blankets?

The best brand depends on your needs! Popular choices include the Cozy Earth Cuddle Blanket and Lola Blanket for their irresistibly soft faux-fur feel. The Rumpl blanket is beloved by outdoor enthusiasts, and Brooklinen blankets are a high-quality, breathable option.

Which quality of blanket is best?

Look for blankets made from high-quality materials like cotton, wool or cashmere. A good blanket should be soft, breathable and durable, with strong stitching and minimal shedding.

We also noticed that many of the softest blankets our editors tested are made from polyester—but not all polyester is created equal.

What type of blanket is the warmest?

Wool and down blankets are some of the warmest options, with excellent insulation. Heated blankets also provide extra warmth on chilly nights.

Are luxury blankets worth it?

If you love premium materials and long-lasting quality, luxury blankets can be worth the splurge! They often offer superior softness, durability and a touch of elegance.
