I Tried 65 Pumpkin Spice Flavored Foods and Ranked Them All

This is the one pumpkin spice food ranking to rule them all.

Every year, without fail, the pumpkin spice latte returns to Starbucks and ushers in the beginning of fall. The seasonal treat first debuted in 2003, and every year since, we’ve gotten a deluge of pumpkin spice products. Even though the true pumpkin spice heyday is behind us, there are still so many limited-edition and seasonal versions of products available in stores.

I decided to go on a brave and noble quest to find and taste as many spiced products as I could. After scouring my local grocery stores for a month, I was able to find 65 pumpkin spice-inspired foods and drinks. I asked my parents to help me taste and rank them, and the rest is history.

Methodology

This was a much bigger project than I anticipated, so I put some parameters in place to keep the ratings consistent and hold on to some of my sanity. With two exceptions, I only bought ready-to-eat products. I am certain that there are more pumpkin spice foods out there, so if your favorite is missing, I apologize!

I enlisted my parents to help me with the tasting. First, I wanted an odd number of tasters. Second, my mom enjoys pumpkin spice but my dad does not. Third, they are retired, live nearby, and it was easy to convince them to spend two days tasting pumpkin spice treats with me. I felt like they would add some good balance to this undertaking.

I divided all 65 products into nine subcategories:

  • Baked goods
  • Breakfast
  • Coffee and tea
  • Cookies
  • Creamer
  • Dairy
  • Protein
  • Snacks
  • Assorted sweets

We answered two questions about each product: did we like it, and would we buy it again? Then we ranked the items’ pumpkin spice flavor on a scale from 0-5, with half points acceptable. I averaged our scores to get each product’s final score. When there were ties, I looked to see if the product was something that everyone liked and would buy again to help break ties.

Without further ado, I present the ultimate pumpkin spice food ranking of 2025. Enjoy!

8. Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Streusel Muffins

Again, the theme for the Trader Joe’s baked goods remains the same: pretty dry and not a lot of pumpkin flavor! The streusel on top didn’t add anything of value.

6. Aldi Pumpkin Cookie Sandwiches

The cookies were too soft, and the cream cheese filling was overwhelming, so they were kind of hard to eat. The delicate pumpkin spice flavor was a positive, however.

Aldi Pumpkin Spice Mini Biscotti

Pillsbury Grands Pumpkin Spice Rolls
Hayley Schueneman for Taste of Home

4. Pillsbury Grands Pumpkin Spice Rolls

My dad and I loved these; my mom did not. They definitely had pumpkin flavor in the dough and in the icing, which was a nice treat. My mom thought they were too doughy and sickly sweet. I think she’d like these homemade pumpkin cinnamon rolls much better.

3. Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Mini Sheet Cake

If you’re going to get any Trader Joe’s fall treat, it should be this cake. It’s moist, delicious and perfectly pumpkin spiced. Our only complaint was that there was a bit too much cream cheese frosting, which overpowered the pumpkin flavor.

Score: 3.7/5

2. Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Biscotti

These biscotti are easy to enjoy on their own and are longer than the Aldi version, so they’re easier to dunk in your favorite fall mug. The pumpkin spice flavor felt balanced, and the texture held up well.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m glad that this experiment is over. It was a lot of pumpkin spice food to eat! The nice thing about sampling so many products, though, is that it made our favorites stand out pretty clearly. At the end of the two days, these were our favorite products (in no particular order):

  • Aldi Pumpkin Sliced Loaf Cake
  • Good Culture Pumpkin & Spice Cottage Cheese
  • Aldi Pumpkin Spice Sandwich Crèmes
  • Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spiced Joe-Joes
  • Pillsbury Grands Pumpkin Spice Rolls
  • Kellogg’s Pumpkin Spice Special K
  • Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spiced Teeny Tiny Pretzels

And the one product that received the highest overall average rating? That would be the Aldi Pumpkin Spice Sandwich Crèmes with a score of 4.5. Even though I am feeling some pumpkin spice fatigue, I would go buy another container of those in a heartbeat.
