  • Mix of reds, whites and rosés
  • Sells out each year, so you know it's good
  • Free shipping
  • Four calendar options to choose from
  • Easy to recork

Cons:

  • Some wines were a bit underwhelming

Curated by a sustainable winemaker, this Advent calendar takes wine enthusiasts on a 24-day tasting adventure. You’ll sample varietals from Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and California to learn about different regions and refine your wine knowledge. The mini wine bottles are also charming enough to be repurposed as home decor!

We’ve tested this calendar both in 2024 and 2025, and each year it consistently impresses with new, flavorful finds. Inclusions for the 2025 mixed wine calendar range from spicy rosé to gewürztraminer and Montepulciano. Those particular about their wines can pick up the all-reds or whites and rosés options. There’s also a luxury version for those who appreciate the finer things.

“There is a world map of wines and a QR code for more information, highlighting that the selection of wine comes from France, Chile, Argentina, Australia and California,” notes Editor Mary Henn. “The wine also comes in a giant, festive box. It’s much bigger in person than it looks online!”

Each mini bottle (187 ml) holds enough for one large glass of vino, or a tasting portion for two. And these aren’t your average mini shot bottles. Instead, they come out to around a quarter bottle of wine each (AKA a Split, Piccolo, Pony). You end up with the equivalent of about six bottles of wine, all told. At around $22 per bottle, that’s a pretty good deal!

Each bottle is packaged securely inside its slot, meaning zero breakage during transit. The bottles themselves are also display-worthy for those who want to upcycle them for flower propagation or candles. Each comes with a mini cork, which makes it easy to save them for later in the fridge. There’s so much variety, making it exciting to open with family and friends to share the tasting experience.

“Make each day leading up to Christmas a celebration,” says Editor Emily Way, who enjoyed the 2025 calendar. “Inside this sparkling wine Advent calendar are 12 half-bottle-sized bubbly beverages to sip on, and no two are the same. The calendars are different each year, and this year’s contents include sparkling wines from brands like Chandon, Gemma di Luna and Ruffino.”

While the assortment leans heavily on Preseccos, we still find the variety satisfying enough for most sparkling wine enthusiasts. At around $10 per mini bottle, we find the calendar an overall good value, especially for gifting. Because of the pretty packaging and celebration-centric contents, we also find it to be a good gift for hosts.

Boasting detailed and stunning mansion-shaped packaging, this enormous beauty channels classic holiday flicks like Home Alone and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. With so much detail put into presentation, it’s just as much a piece of decor as it is a countdown calendar.

Inside are 24 mini handcrafted wines, each with 187-milliliters—enough for a generous glassful for one. The bottles are carefully curated and offer a varied assortment. This luxury Advent calendar also comes with a helpful tasting guide, featuring serving tips, food pairing ideas and tasting notes for each option.

“From the moment I opened this beautiful wine advent calendar, I was absolutely smitten. The gorgeous packaging is pretty enough to prominently display on a table or mantle. I cannot get over the pretty snowcapped artwork—just whimsical,” says Editor Emily Way. “If you want to treat your loved ones (or yourself) to a wine advent calendar that looks as luxurious as the handpicked wines inside, this is the one. Each of the 24 glass mini bottles mirrors its full-sized cousin, making for a fun and enchanting experience for wine lovers.”

The bottles (which sit horizontally) are well-packed in bubble wrap to ensure that zero break in transit. It’s worth noting that each bottle is a little difficult to remove from its corresponding door, according to Emily. Nonetheless, the most important thing is that each arrived unbroken and ready to enjoy.

Editor Mary Henn tested both 12 Nights collections and enjoyed each of the inclusions. No two options are the same, making for a interesting variety. Plus, there’s a lot of information about each wine included, so it’s a great option if you’re wanting to learn a little as you sip.

“I love that these wines come in sleek glass tubes that help preserve their flavor,” says Mary. “Each has a convenient twist top, making them easy to open and pour—no corks to fuss with.”

Tester Madi Koetting, who tried the 2023 and 2024 calendars, had a similarly inspiring experience. “Vinebox’s 12 Nights of Wine calendar remains a staple in my household’s holiday countdown experience, and I seriously get so giddy thinking about what I’ll get to try next,” she says.

Wine Adventure Advent Calendar

Pros:

  • Amazing value
  • 24 days of wine
  • Mix of reds, whites and rosés
  • Twist tops make each bottle easy to reseal
  • Some fizzy wines included

Cons:

  • Plastic bottles

With 24 expert-selected wines from countries like France, Spain, Italy, Germany, and more, this limited-edition Advent calendar from Total Wine takes you around the globe. For just $80, you get 24 quarter bottles of wine (187mL). That equals out to six bottles of wine at around $13 per bottle—an excellent value!

Some varieties are repeats, but not from the same label, so each and every bottle is unique. Although made of plastic, these bottles are also very cute. You could easily separate this calendar to include mini wines in individual holiday gift baskets. While not ideal for preserving the taste of the wine, the plastic bottles ensure there are no broken bottles or glass during shipment. All the bottles also have twist tops, so you can have a small glass or tasting and reseal the bottle for later.

“I love the concept of the ‘around-the-world’ wine boxes,” says Mary, who tested the 2025 version. “It makes opening the Advent calendar feel like a mini holiday trip.” Some of her favorite selections include Jean Marcel le Rose Fizzy, Grand Sud Sauvignon Blanc and Summer Touch Peach. Varieties span reds, whites and rosés, plus a few sparkling options.

Total Wine offers most if not all of the wines included in the box for individual sale, so you can repurchase any favorites. While the wine varieties are all pretty standard and the packaging is fairly minimal, there’s enough variety to make this calendar exciting to open and taste. Bonus: These are not like mini shot bottles (50 ml); they are 187ml (AKA a Split, Piccolo, Pony), equivalent to a quarter of a standard bottle.

How We Tested

In Good Taste Mixed Wine Advent Calendar
MARY HENN FOR TASTE OF HOME

To find the best wine Advent calendars, our expert shopping team tested several different options in 2023, 2024 and 2025. We began by researching the most popular calendars, sticking to brands we’ve either personally tried or that already have a good reputation. We then sourced the calendars and participated in the Advent countdown with each. Some wine Advent calendars—including WSJ Wine, Vinebox and In Good Taste—were tested several years in a row. Others, like the Give Them Beer sparkling wine countdown, were tested for the first time in 2025 by editor Emily Way.

From there, we considered a number of evaluation categories, including shipping, experience, packaging, freshness and value. When it comes to Advent calendars, one of the most important considerations is value. We only included calendars in our roundup that offered excellent surprises at a price that wasn’t artificially inflated.

What to Look For

Wsj Wine Advent Calendar
EMILY WAY FOR TASTE OF HOME

There are many wine Advent calendars available, so narrowing it down can be difficult. In order to find the best wine Advent calendar for you or a loved one, we recommend first deciding how many days you’re looking for. Some wine Advent calendars offer a full 24-day experience, while others include only 12 days of surprises.

From there, think about the types of wine you enjoy. If you prefer reds or whites exclusively, we recommend opting for a wine Advent calendar that offers customization. Next is serving size. Some wine Advent calendars come with quarter- or even half-size bottles, while others offer vials and bottles that only hold about a glassful. Smaller bottles work very well for individual servings, but we don’t recommend them for sharing.

Lastly is value. Most wine Advent calendars will cost around $100 or more, depending on the inclusions. The standard size for a full-size wine bottle is 750 ml (or around five glasses). Most wine Advent calendars offer a total of at least 1,200 milliliters of wine for a twelve-day countdown. Anything less than this is, in our opinion, not a good value.
