We’ve tested this calendar both in 2024 and 2025, and each year it consistently impresses with new, flavorful finds. Inclusions for the 2025 mixed wine calendar range from spicy rosé to gewürztraminer and Montepulciano. Those particular about their wines can pick up the all-reds or whites and rosés options. Editor Mary Henn tested both 12 Nights collections and enjoyed each of the inclusions. No two options are the same, making for a interesting variety. Plus, there’s a lot of information about each wine included, so it’s a great option if you’re wanting to learn a little as you sip.
“I love that these wines come in sleek glass tubes that help preserve their flavor,” says Mary. “Each has a convenient twist top, making them easy to open and pour—no corks to fuss with.”
Tester Madi Koetting, who tried the 2023 and 2024 calendars, had a similarly inspiring experience. “Vinebox’s 12 Nights of Wine calendar remains a staple in my household’s holiday countdown experience, and I seriously get so giddy thinking about what I’ll get to try next,” she says.

Some varieties are repeats, but not from the same label, so each and every bottle is unique. Although made of plastic, these bottles are also very cute. You could easily separate this calendar to include mini wines in individual holiday gift baskets. While not ideal for preserving the taste of the wine, the plastic bottles ensure there are no broken bottles or glass during shipment. All the bottles also have twist tops, so you can have a small glass or tasting and reseal the bottle for later.
“I love the concept of the ‘around-the-world’ wine boxes,” says Mary, who tested the 2025 version. “It makes opening the Advent calendar feel like a mini holiday trip.” Some of her favorite selections include Jean Marcel le Rose Fizzy, Grand Sud Sauvignon Blanc and Summer Touch Peach. Varieties span reds, whites and rosés, plus a few sparkling options.
Total Wine offers most if not all of the wines included in the box for individual sale, so you can repurchase any favorites. While the wine varieties are all pretty standard and the packaging is fairly minimal, there’s enough variety to make this calendar exciting to open and taste. Bonus: These are not like mini shot bottles (50 ml); they are 187ml (AKA a Split, Piccolo, Pony), equivalent to a quarter of a standard bottle.
To find the best wine Advent calendars, our expert shopping team tested several different options in 2023, 2024 and 2025. We began by researching the most popular calendars, sticking to brands we’ve either personally tried or that already have a good reputation. We then sourced the calendars and participated in the Advent countdown with each. Some wine Advent calendars—including WSJ Wine, Vinebox and In Good Taste—were tested several years in a row. Others, like the Give Them Beer sparkling wine countdown, were tested for the first time in 2025 by editor Emily Way.
From there, we considered a number of evaluation categories, including shipping, experience, packaging, freshness and value. When it comes to Advent calendars, one of the most important considerations is value. We only included calendars in our roundup that offered excellent surprises at a price that wasn’t artificially inflated.
There are many wine Advent calendars available, so narrowing it down can be difficult. In order to find the best wine Advent calendar for you or a loved one, we recommend first deciding how many days you’re looking for. Some wine Advent calendars offer a full 24-day experience, while others include only 12 days of surprises.
From there, think about the types of wine you enjoy. If you prefer reds or whites exclusively, we recommend opting for a wine Advent calendar that offers customization. Next is serving size. Some wine Advent calendars come with quarter- or even half-size bottles, while others offer vials and bottles that only hold about a glassful. Smaller bottles work very well for individual servings, but we don’t recommend them for sharing.
Lastly is value. Most wine Advent calendars will cost around $100 or more, depending on the inclusions. The standard size for a full-size wine bottle is 750 ml (or around five glasses). Most wine Advent calendars offer a total of at least 1,200 milliliters of wine for a twelve-day countdown. Anything less than this is, in our opinion, not a good value.
Costco does usually have a wine advent calendar each year. This year’s Wine Advent-ure calendar has already dropped in stores, and is available for around $100. Unfortunately, it’s not listed on the website for purchase.
Aldi does several advent calendars each year, but the company has not yet officially announced its lineup for 2025—just teasers. We look forward to seeing if they have a wine advent calendar on their shelves!
