These sweet and spicy Asian chicken wraps combine store-bought ingredients to make an easy weeknight meal the whole family will love.

When it comes to family dinners, the easier, the better. From after-school activities to sports games to late nights stuck at the office, time can be of the essence when it comes to prepping and cooking dinner. Enter these simple Asian chicken wraps.

With a reliance on store-bought ingredients, such as frozen chicken tenders and coleslaw mix, along with pantry staples like soy sauce and sweet chili sauce, this quick weeknight meal requires minimal time and effort to assemble. In fact, in less than 30 minutes, you’ll get dinner on the table before anyone can complain that they’re hungry. Fair warning: These disappear fast.

Ingredients for Asian Chicken Wraps

  • Frozen breaded chicken tenders: Taste of Home contributor Mary Lou Timpson prefers using frozen breaded chicken tenders to save time on prep for a quick weeknight meal. But you can make fried chicken tenders or easy baked chicken tenders from scratch if you have the time.
  • Coleslaw mix: A packaged coleslaw mix adds texture and crunch to the Asian chicken wrap recipe.
  • Sweet chili sauce: The sweet chili sauce adds a bit of heat and sweetness to the wraps. This flavorful sauce is a tasty Asian sauce to keep on hand in your pantry.
  • Green onions: Chopped green onions add a mild onion flavor to the wraps.
  • Chopped fresh cilantro: Chopped fresh cilantro adds its signature zesty flavor to the wraps. If you don’t like cilantro (blame your genetics), you can replace it with fresh chopped Italian parsley or skip it entirely.
  • Soy sauce: This umami-packed sauce is made with fermented or hydrolyzed soybeans. It adds a salty and savory flavor to the wraps. Use any favorite store-bought soy sauce brand.
  • Flour tortillas: Use 8-inch flour tortillas to make the wraps. Warming the tortillas before assembling the wraps makes them easier to fold and roll.
  • Dry-roasted peanuts: Chopped peanuts add even more crunch to this Asian chicken wrap recipe. Dry-roasted peanuts will be the most flavorful.

Directions

Step 1: Bake the chicken tenders

Bake the chicken tenders according to the package directions.

Step 2: Prep the coleslaw mix

While the chicken bakes, in a large bowl, toss the coleslaw mix with the chili sauce, green onions, cilantro and soy sauce.

Step 3: Make the wraps

Arrange the chicken down the center of each tortilla. Top with the coleslaw mixture and peanuts. Fold the sides of each tortilla over the filling and roll up.

Asian Chicken Wrap Variations

  • Play with the protein: You can use shredded chicken breast or thigh meat (this is a great way to use up leftover chicken!) in place of the chicken tenders. Or, switch up the protein entirely and use shredded pork or beef, or even breaded shrimp, in place of the chicken. For a vegetarian version, use pan-fried or baked tofu in place of the chicken.
  • Skip the tortillas: For a low-carb version, use lettuce leaves in place of the tortillas.
  • Switch up the sauce: These Asian chicken wraps would also be delicious made with a spicy peanut sauce.
  • Pile on the veggies: Pack in even more nutrition by adding thinly sliced or chopped bell peppers, carrots or cucumbers to the coleslaw mix.

How to Store Asian Chicken Wraps

Store leftover wraps in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They’ll last up to four days. However, the tortillas will get soggy as they absorb the sauce. Consider storing the different components—the chicken, slaw mixture and tortillas—separately to reheat the chicken and tortillas, and then wrap everything before serving. If you do have a soggy tortilla, unwrap it and start with a fresh one.

What’s the best way to warm tortillas?

Warming the tortillas before assembling the wraps helps make them more pliable and prevent them from cracking when folded. You can either warm them individually in a pan or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat on the stovetop, or wrap a small pile of tortillas in a wet paper towel, place them on a microwave-safe plate and heat for 30 seconds in the microwave.

What else can you serve with Asian chicken wraps?

Pair these sweet and spicy Asian chicken wraps with a flavorful Asian-inspired salad, such as a glass noodle salad or soy-ginger ramen slaw. Or, serve them alongside a rice dish such as cilantro-lime rice or ginger fried rice. And don’t forget a dipping sauce! Serve the wraps with extra sweet chili sauce, hoisin sauce or a homemade satay sauce.
