Chicken Bacon Swiss Sandwich Ingredients
Mayonnaise
Dijon mustard
Honey
Chicken breasts
Montreal steak seasoning
Swiss cheese
Hamburger buns
Bacon strips
Lettuce leaves and tomato slices (optional)
Directions
Step 1: Make the sauce
In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard and honey.
Step 2: Cook the chicken
Pound the chicken with a meat mallet to 1/2-inch thickness, and sprinkle it with steak seasoning. Grill the chicken, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 inches from the heat until a thermometer reads 165°F. It should take four to six minutes on each side. Top it with cheese during the last minute of cooking.
Step 3: Assemble the sandwich
Grill the buns over medium heat, cut side down, until toasted, 30 to 60 seconds. Serve the chicken on the buns with bacon, the mayonnaise mixture and, if desired, lettuce and tomato.
Editor’s Tip: Toasting your buns is an important step that adds a nice buttery crunch to the dish and prevents the sandwich from becoming soggy.

How to Store Chicken Bacon Swiss Sandwiches
Store the cooked chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days. If you’re making the chicken ahead of time, we suggest melting the cheese only on the chicken that will be eaten immediately. Melt the rest when you reheat the chicken, and grill the buns just before serving.

What can I serve with a chicken and bacon sandwich?
This chicken bacon and Swiss sandwich is filling enough to be enjoyed on its own, but it also tastes fantastic paired with make-ahead side dishes like roasted vegetables or dill potato salad. To turn it into a soup-and-sandwich combo, take the classic route and pair it with tomato soup, or serve the sandwiches with a refreshing summer salad for a lighter take.
Can I bake chicken breasts for sandwiches instead of grilling them?
You can certainly bake your chicken instead of grilling it when making sandwiches. Preheat your oven to 375° while you season the chicken. Cook the chicken until the internal temperature reaches 165°, and let it rest for a few minutes to allow the juices to redistribute. Alternatively, when the chicken is nearing the proper internal temperature, increase the oven heat and broil the chicken to develop a nice, crisp crust.
Can I use a different cheese for my chicken and bacon sandwich?
Swiss cheese adds a nutty flavor to chicken and bacon sandwiches, but feel free to substitute another type of cheese that you enjoy. Mozzarella will add a mild, creamy taste with a subtle tang, while pepper jack will introduce a nice kick of spice to the sandwich. You can even add sharp cheddar for a stronger taste that would pair well with the other flavors in this chicken bacon sandwich.

I created this chicken sandwich recipe based on a meal my daughter ordered at a restaurant. She likes to dip her sandwich in the extra honey-mustard sauce. —Marilyn Moberg, Papillion, Nebraska
