Can you use prepared honey mustard in this salmon recipe?

The short answer is, yes, 1/4 cup prepared honey mustard can be used in place of 2 tablespoons honey plus 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, however the flavor will be slightly different. The flavor of Dijon mustard has a unique kick from its combination of ingredients that might be missing if a prepared blend is used. Simple salmon recipes like this one are very forgiving, though, and still taste great even with minor changes based on what ingredients you have on hand.

What are some other variations of this honey mustard salmon recipe?

Look to your spice cabinet and pantry to add more dimension to honey mustard salmon. Add a teaspoon of chili-garlic sauce to your glaze to give it some heat. A generous pinch of red pepper flakes or cayenne will do the trick, too! You can also add minced garlic and smoked paprika for extra flavor.

Ingredients

  • 10 salmon fillets (5 ounces each)
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  1. Place fillets, skin side down, on a greased baking sheet. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, mustard, honey and salt; spoon over salmon.
  2. Broil 3-4 in. from the heat until fish just begins to flake easily with a fork, 8-12 minutes.
