Orange Sherbet

Beat the heat with a cool and creamy orange sherbet. This homemade treat is the perfect balance of tangy and sweet.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh orange juice
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, optional
Directions
- In a large bowl, whisk together orange juice, orange zest, sugar and salt until sugar and salt are dissolved. Whisk in heavy cream until combined, and if desired, vanilla extract. Refrigerate mixture for 1 hour.
- Fill cylinder of ice cream maker no more than two-thirds full; freeze according to the manufacturer’s directions. Transfer sherbet to freezer containers, allowing headspace for expansion. Freeze until firm, 8 hours or overnight.
