Overnight Sausage Strata

Ingredients

  • 7 cups cubed day-old bread
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 8 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2-1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage, cooked and drained
  • 1-1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Directions

  1. Place bread cubes in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Drizzle with butter. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, milk, mustard, Italian seasoning and pepper; mix well. Pour over bread. Crumble sausage over top; sprinkle with cheese. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
  2. Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Bake, uncovered, at 325° for 45-55 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
