AT&T Trek HD 4G LTE is the carrier's first Android Lollipop tablet

AT&T today unveiled its first own-branded tablet, the Trek HD 4G LTE. This is an affordable slate that also happens to be AT&T's first to run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

As its name suggests, the new AT&T tablet offers LTE connectivity, and an HD screen - an 8-inch one, to be exact. The device weighs 12 ounces (340 grams), and, according to AT&T, it's "a big step forward" for the carrier "in terms of developing affordable products with premium features."

Powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, the AT&T Star Trek HD has a 5 MP rear camera, and a 2 MP front-facing camera. Other features include 16 GB of internal memory, microSD card support, and a 4060 mAh battery for up to 8 hours of continuous use. It's also worth mentioning that the Trek HD earned 3 stars (out of 5) on the AT&T Eco-Rating 2.0 system.

While AT&T doesn't say which company is manufacturing the Trek HD, it's probably one of its China-based partners (possibly ZTE, though we can't be sure).

Starting May 12, customers will be able to buy the Trek HD online, for as low as $49.99 with a 2-yr contract agreement, or for $10 monthly for 20 months with AT&T's Tablet Installment plan. The AT&T Trek HD will also be available in stores, but only starting May 15. You can take a look at the tablet in the video below:
