Apple iPad 5 ribbon cable appears, indicating a Touch ID fingerprint unlock is in store
Apple might not be wasting its Touch ID fingerprint scanner invention away with presence only on the new iPhone 5s, it seems. After reports that it will be planted into the home key of the upcoming iPad mini 2, and guesswork whether it will be baked into the iPad 5, now comes more solid proof about Apple's 5th generation iPad and its Touch ID equipment.
The alleged ribbon cable of the iPad 5 has been leaked, and the part where the home key goes is rather different than the flex cable we have on the iPad 4, indicating a possible new home button with the venerable Touch ID sensor might make its way on the iPad 5, too.
Of course, given that the new iPad will have a slimmer, more compact body due to reworks in the screen's lighting, the ribbon cable might have received a new design because of that, though in that case the home button contact part would have stayed the same. In any case, the announcement is expected in the last week of October, so we should know more pretty soon.
