Firefox for Android on its way - loads up its first page
It’s nice to see that Maemo strike gold with the first official release of the Firefox mobile web browser, but Android owners won’t have to wait long hopefully before they land their own version. Porting over Fennec, aka Firefox Mobile, is taking its time with a new milestone being reached – it actually loaded its first web page according to the developer. Slow steps are going to be required in getting this venerable web browser to work well with Android – the developer goes on to say that mouse events sort of work, top level windows sort of work, and the keyboard doesn’t work yet but shouldn’t be hard to hook up. Before continuing with the mobile version, they’re actually testing the full Firefox interface on Android right now – seeing that it’s a bit more complex. The reason for it is that the understanding that if the full version works, then Fennec should work as well. Even though we’re starting to see Android running on devices like tablets or netbook, the full experience of Firefox may be more suited on those devices – so it makes some sense in testing out the full interface of Firefox.
