Globalfoundries promises first 14nm 3D chips in 2013, coming with up to 60% battery life savings
Globalfoundries, the world’s second-biggest semiconductor foundry, has just unveiled its 14nm 3D transistor technology, similar to the one announced by Intel. The foundry calls its technology Extreme Mobility (14nm-XM) and leverages both the low-voltage and low-leak characteristics of its FinFET layout.

Now, having a 3D chip like the 14nm-XM - and unlike current flat solutions - is crucial to battery life savings and Globalfoundries says it could help you achieve 40 to 60% battery economy.

The first working 14nm chips are expected sometime in 2013, at just around the same time when Intel is expected to brings its 3D chip.
