Google Nexus 7 gets the benchmark treatment

And less than 24 hours after its announcement, the Google Nexus 7 has already been given the benchmark treatment. Not that a synthetic test is necessarily a trustworthy indication of superior (or inferior) performance, but it is good enough to give us an idea as to what the tablet is capable of.

Just a quick refresher, there is a Tegra 3 quad-core chip running inside the Google Nexus 7 in tandem with 1GB of RAM. The CPU's maximum clock speed has been reduced to about 1.2GHz when all cores are used, and to 1.3GHz when only one of them is running. The GPU frequency has also been brought down to 416MHz. Yet still, despite the tweaking that has been done, those benchmark results look quite satisfactory. The tablet excels when it comes to JavaScript processing in Chrome and handles OpenGL rendering relatively well. 

Of course, other tablets are well capable of achieving better results, but don't forget that the Google Nexus 7 starts at $199. That said, you get a lot of bang for the buck.
