Google confirms the original Pixel will no longer receive software updates

Google released the usual monthly update for Pixel phones a few days ago, but the Pixel and Pixel XL were not among the phones that received the update. Although we initially thought that Google will no longer update the original Pixel going forward, the search giant announced other plans for the old devices.

The Verge reports that Google confirmed the Pixel and Pixel XL won't be getting the November update, which contains some improvements and security enhancements, but they will receive another update next month.

As per Google's statement, the original Pixels will receive “one final software update” in December, which “encapsulates a variety of updates” from both months that were delivered to the other Pixels that will continue to be updated.

Of course, Google's decision to no longer support the original Pixel phones isn't surprising considering that both devices made their debut on the market more than three years ago. On the other hand, the fact that Google unexpectedly provided Android 10 updates to the Pixel and Pixel XL will make it harder for owners to decide whether or not they should switch to newer phones.
