Google's Pixel XL pays a visit to Geekbench, let's compare it to the iPhone 7

Google has just announced its new premium smartphones — the Pixel and Pixel XL. Packed to the brim with the latest hardware, and priced appropriately, the Pixels start at $650 for the regular, 32 GB variant — much like many of the competing flagships, even the iPhones. What kind of hardware, you may ask? Why Qualcomm's latest and greatest quad-core Snapdragon 821, coupled with 4 GB of RAM.

A few Pixel XLs have now hit Geekbench, and we can see how it scores on the website. In fact, we can compare its score to the many iPhone 7 Plus units that have been tested with the same app.

Sorry to say, but the results don't look amazing. The Google Pixel XL scores around 1600 points on the single-core test and 4000 on the multi-core one. The iPhone 7 Plus seems to consistently decimate it with 3400 points on the single-core and 5500 on the multi-core test. Point to the A10 Fusion team.

Of course, real-life performance doesn't always reflect benchmark scores. We'll still have to wait and see how the Pixel XL feels and performs once we get our mitts on one.
