HP intros Stream 7 and Stream 8, the first one is the cheapest Windows tablet ever
HP and Microsoft today announced two new tablets: the Stream 7 and Stream 8, both of which will try to compete with the multitude of very cheap Android slates that dominate the market.
Running Windows 8.1, the HP Stream 7 and Stream 8 have a similar design, but different sizes: the former is a 7-inch device, while the latter is - obviously - an 8-inch one.
While most of their specs haven’t been unveiled, we know that the tablets sport HD displays, and are powered by quad-core Intel processors. Both slates offer 60 minutes of Skype monthly, a 1-year subscription to Microsoft Office 365 Personal, and 1 TB of free storage space on OneDrive. Owners of the Stream 8 will be able to enjoy 200 MB of free 4G data monthly “for the life of the device.”
The Stream 7 and Stream 8 will be available in the US starting November. The 7-inch slate will cost just $99.99, being the cheapest Windows tablet yet (though only $20 cheaper than the Toshiba Encore Mini that was launched in early September). If you want the 8-inch Stream, you’ll have to pay $149.99. It’s not clear if HP will sell these internationally, but we assume Microsoft wants that to happen anyway. Any takers?
