Is that free Office with our small Win 8 tablets, Microsoft, or are you just happy to see us?
Microsoft's head of the Windows division Tami Reller took to the stage at Computex to announce the earth-shattering news that the new Windows 8 tablets with smaller screens, and we are talking those powered by x86 processors that can run legacy programs, will go the Surface RT way, and will include Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 preinstalled for free.

She casually mentioned that all the basics like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote will all be included, and we've heard that Outlook will be integrated into the next Windows 8.1 update as well, which Microsoft today previewed with the video below.

Given Intel's claim yesterday that new Win 8 tablets and convertibles with the Bay Trail chippery will be getting down to $399, and probably even below for smaller slates, a free Microsoft Office will definitely sweeten the deal to the extent to give Android and iPad slates a run for their money, depending on the performance.
