New Samsung event scheduled for June 2, Gear Fit 2 likely to be announced then

Samsung is planning to announce something later this week. The company sent out invites for a media event that's going to take place in New York City, on June 2, when we will "experience how Samsung’s devices work together to create a Galaxy of Possibility."

Since this isn't an Unpacked event, we're pretty sure that there will be no new smartphones to see. Instead, Samsung will probably announce the Gear Fit 2 - its next generation activity tracker that should replace the original Gear Fit (released back in 2014).

According to various leaked photos, the Gear Fit 2 isn't too different from the original Gear Fit, allegedly sporting a curved AMOLED display with 216 x 432 pixels, and featuring rubbery bands of various colors. The device will be dust- and water-resistant (IP68-certified), running Tizen OS. GPS, a dual-core processor, and 512 MB of RAM should be on board as well. At launch, the original Gear Fit was priced at $199, so we think the new model won't cost more than $200. But we'll see about that.

Alongside the Gear Fit 2, Samsung might also announce a brand new pair of touch-controlled Bluetooth earbuds dubbed Gear IconX. It's said that these are dust- and water-resistant, too, offering 4 GB of internal memory - thus being able to replace your music player (if you have one).
