Poll: Should Samsung keep trying with Tizen?

When you think of smartphones, what two operating systems come to mind? For most people, it's Android and iOS. There are some holdouts that still believe Windows Mobile has a place in the market, but when looking at real usage numbers, there's no doubt that Android and iOS account for the majority of the market. However, if you regularly keep up with mobile tech news, you know that these aren't the only two mobile operating systems in existence. Samsung's own Tizen OS has been around for almost 5 years at this point, but unfortunately, it hasn't grown quite as popular as Samsung would have liked.

While we've yet to see a true Tizen-powered smartphone make a big impression on the US, it's been powering Samsung's smartwatches for quite some time. The latest device to run Tizen that's getting a major release is the upcoming Gear S3 smartwatch line, and it looks to be one of the most impressive wearables that we've seen all year. However, when looking at Tizen as a whole, there's still a great deal of work that needs to be done before it can stand among the ranks of its Android and iOS counterparts.

Samsung recently announced that they'll be launching the the Tizen Mobile App Incentive Program, and it's designed to solve one of the biggest issues surrounding the Tizen OS as a whole - app availability. The company is investing a grand total of more than $9 million into this initiative to get developers to create more and more apps for the operating system, and with this news breaking, it got us to thinking - should Samsung keep trying with Tizen, or is it time to give up on it once and for all?

Kill it off, no reason to compete with Android or iOS
