Qualcomm confirms it will support Google's Android Oreo (Go edition)

The Snapdragon 845 wasn't the only important thing Qualcomm announced these days at its Tech Summit. The US-based company confirmed it will support Google's newly unveiled Android Oreo (Go edition).

Android Oreo (Go edition) is a water down version of the standard Android Oreo operating system, specifically optimized for smartphones supporting 1GB or less of RAM. Well, Qualcomm has just announced that it's working with Google “to enable the next wave of value priced smartphones.”

According to Qualcomm, mid and low-end Snapdragon chipsets will be Android Go-ready as soon as Google releases Android 8.1 Oreo to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

Furthermore, the US-based company says that when paired with its Snapdragon chips, handsets powered by Android Oreo (Go edition) will benefit from “new experiences not seen before from smartphones in this range.”

Qualcomm is the first chipmaker that pledges allegiance to the Android Oreo (Go edition) project, but we can safely assume other companies like MediaTek and, maybe, Samsung will make similar announcements very soon.
