Results: that Razer ain't sharp enough to cut through the Xperia XZ Premium

In a year when bezels are shrinking and screens are growing, some manufacturers stuck to their guns and did their own thing, appealing to the traditionalists with the good ol' 16:9 display and hefty bezels that you can hold on to. Sony is a prominent member of that group, as its Xperia flagships have held on to that stark, rectangular footprint for years now. But the new kid on the block — the Razer Phone — pulls off something similar.

So, if you put the Razer Phone and the Sony Xperia XZ Premium side by side, you've got two chocobar slabs. Unappealing to some, the dream phone for many others. They are also outfitted with pretty awesome hardware — the Snapdragon 835, 4 GB of RAM on the Sony, 8 GB of RAM on the Razer, and displays that are impressive in their own right.

The Xperia XZ Premium has a 5.7-inch display with a 4K resolution (2160 x 3840), while the Razer has a 5.5-inch screen, which may have the more standard 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution, but offers a super-smooth 120 Hz refresh rate — a first on a smartphone at that.

In the camera department, the Sony has the upper leg. If not for image quality, which can be argued, then for the Super Slow Motion feature, which shoots 960 frames per second to deliver some truly... well, slow-moving shots. It's also worth noting that the Xperia has water-resistance despite rocking a headphone jack, while the Razer Phone lacks both.
