T-Mobile's Mobile Without Borders initiative brings free roaming services in Canada and Mexico

T-Mobile has just announced that, starting July 15th, all of its Simple Choice plans will get free roaming services in Canada in Mexico.

The carrier calls this move "Mobile Without Borders", and its introduction will mean that all T-Mobile subscribers on a Simple Choice plan will get free calling to and from Mexico and Canada, as well as all the 4G LTE data they're entitled to at no further cost.

T-Mobile Simple Choice subscribers will now be able to travel all through North America and use the exact same services that T-Mobile offers in the US, although the carrier notes that the new plans are to be used primarily in the US, and are not destined for extended international use.

T-Mobile's free roaming services will only be available for US residents, and will be free for all customers on a Simple Choice prepaid or postpaid plan. T-Mobile subscribers on promotional or legacy plans can still add the new Mobile Without Borders feature, but only for $10 extra.

Back in 2013, T-Mobile introduced a feature that allowed its customers to use roaming services for free anywhere in the world, but speeds were limited to 2G levels unless customers pay certain fees for faster access. This will still be the case for other countries, but in Canada and Mexico, roaming services will be offered at full speed.

In John Legere’s characteristic style and tone, the T-Mobile CEO argues that the new plans are preferable to all roaming services offered by other major US carriers, an affirmation that, at least at first glance, seems to be accurate. Check out the photo gallery below for more details!

Interestingly, T-Mobile’s Mobile Without Borders campaign comes just a couple of weeks after news broke out that the EU plans to make roaming charges illegal by mid-2017.
